Answers to common questions about Quizcraft.

How do I set up my school?
  1. Set up your school to become its admin. Other teachers join at /join with the staff invite code from School settings.
  2. Create a class and add students by pasting names or uploading a CSV.
  3. Download the login cards and hand them out.
How do students sign in?

At /student, with the school code, username and 4-digit PIN on their login card. No email is needed. After 5 wrong PINs, sign-in pauses for 10 minutes. If a card is lost, use New PIN on the class page.

How do parents see their child's results?

On a class's Students tab, choose Parent letters and print them. Each letter has a parent access code; parents sign in at /parent with the school code and that code. They see released results, work due, missed work and progress, never anything you haven't released. Lost a letter? Make a new code on the student's page and the old one stops working.

How do I record a test done on paper?

Assign a quiz and choose On paper, or use Record a paper test on the class's Assessments tab if there's no quiz. Then type in the marks (or paste them from Excel). They count in the gradebook, progress and reports like any other result.

How do I set a test with a time limit?

Open a quiz and choose Assign to a class. Pick the type (Baseline, End of term, Exam…), the opening and closing times, a time limit and how many attempts. Answers save as students go, and tests submit automatically when time runs out, even if the page was closed.

How do I mark written answers?

On the assessment page, choose Mark answers. Go question by question, give marks (or tap 0, half or full) and add a comment. Scores update straight away, and students see your comments with their results.

How do I compare baseline and end-of-term results?

Assign one quiz as a Baseline at the start of term and another as End of term later, ideally with the same term label. The class's Progress tab shows each student's before and after score, the change, and how many improved. Export it to Excel or as a PDF report.

What files can I upload?

PDF, PowerPoint (.pptx), Word (.docx), plain text, Markdown, HTML and CSV, up to 150 MB. Files are read in your browser, not uploaded. You can also paste text straight in.

Scanned PDFs and photos of pages don't work, because there's no text in them to read. Old .doc files need to be saved as .docx or PDF first.

How does Quizcraft find questions?

If your file already has questions, Quizcraft keeps them. It recognises:

  • numbered questions with A. B. C. choices and an “Answer:” line
  • “(True/False)” statements
  • blanks written as ________
  • “Matching” lists

It then writes new questions from definitions (“Magma is molten rock…”), bullet lists under headings, and numbered steps. For CSV files, use a header row with question, answer and option columns.

How do I use AI to write questions?

Quizcraft can use OpenAI to write questions. It reads your whole document and writes more varied questions than the built-in writer. To turn it on, whoever runs this copy of Quizcraft adds an OpenAI API key:

  1. Create a key at platform.openai.com/api-keys.
  2. In the project folder, copy .env.example to .env.local and paste the key after OPENAI_API_KEY=.
  3. Restart the app. The AI option on the home page will switch on.

The key stays on the server and is never sent to the browser. Your document text is sent to OpenAI only when you choose AI. OpenAI charges for use, usually a fraction of a cent per quiz.

Where are my quizzes saved?

With a school account, in your school's secure database. Without one, they stay in this browser only: clearing browser data or switching computers loses them, so use Share quiz file to keep a copy, or sign in and add them to your school.

How do I share a quiz or move it to another computer?

In the editor, click Download to save a .quizcraft.json file. Send it to someone, and they can open it with Import a quiz file on My quizzes, or by dropping it on the home page.

How do I print a worksheet?

In the editor, click Print. You get a clean worksheet with a name and date line. Tick “Add answer key” to print the answers on a separate page. To make a PDF, choose “Save as PDF” in your browser's print window.

Why can't I take my quiz?

Every question needs a correct answer before the quiz can be taken. The editor shows a note at the top and marks each question that needs fixing in red.
